Description
We want high jumpers to jump well in any condition.
The most important aspect of the high jump is the approach. And many high jumpers aren’t aware of how to adjust their high jump approach so that they perform well in competition on the day.
It is important to for high jumpers to measure their run-up so that they are consistent.
What hasn’t really happened over the years is how high jumpers can adjust their run-up, arc, take-off point, and approach with a system depending on the change in factors when they are jumping.
If a jumper is used to jumping with a tailwind and all of a sudden experiences a headwind, it will affect the velocity and speed that the athlete will approach the bar, which can impact how they run the curve, where they will take-off from, their jumping position, and how high they will jump.
Even if it rains and the athlete tries to jump on a wet surface, their curve may become ineffective, they might slip, or they might not even be able to jump because their body doesn’t get into the right position.
What can be done to fix this? Especially if something happens during the competition?
This is why athletes and coaches need to have a system to know the factors that the athlete requires to maintain their perfect jumping approach for different conditions based on environmental factors or even how the athlete is feeling on the day of the competition.
What will you learn & get with this system?
- How to get and calculate the athlete’s velocity around the high jump arc.
- How torque needs to be managed and how that affects the athlete running the curve in different conditions and speeds.
- The radial arc (curve) for the athlete jumping.
- The take-off angle, and cues to help the athlete hit the right angle all of the time.
- How to adjust the run-up successfully depending on changes in factors. (Wind direction, speed & velocity, change in surface tension, change in curve size, change in the lean of the curve.)
90% of the success of the high jump is due to the run-up. This must be invested in and perfected as much as possible for the athlete to excel.
The athlete should become more consistent and jump higher with more ease as they become faster and more powerful.
