Squat exercises can help you develop the strength and power in your muscles that will allow you to jump higher. Just doing heavy squats on its own won’t contribute directly to height increases. You must develop the strength that will allow you to generate vertical power quickly.
If you look at Olympic weightlifters, they are able to do this through their hip hinging movement. However, the development through the lower range begins with the development of their strength from squatting.
There’s debates as to whether athletes should do deep squats to help develop their muscle and power development. There are a few types of squatting exercises that you can do to help develop the strength that will give you the foundation to jump higher.
- Bulgarian split squats
- Smith machine squats
- Goblet squats
- Barbell squats (Front and back)
- Hack squats
Doing deeper squats will help to develop the muscle tissue, so you will be able to generate more power.
You will need to train to become explosive from the new strength that you will develop from the squats. You will need to include some of the following exercises.
- Kettlebell swings
- Kettlebell swings with explosive jumps
- Double-leg hurdle jumps
- Power cleans
- Snatches
- Deadlifts
